Goldcrest Longevity Record

On the 22nd November 2015 we caught and ringed a Goldcrest in Ravensroost Woods. On the 8th March 2021 this bird was recovered by another ringer on St Mary’s in the Scilly Isles. Although I blogged about it at the time, it was not confirmed until the BTO published the 2021 ringing & nest recording report. This was published on the 30th August 2022 and the BTO have confirmed that this is the longevity record for this species. One would have suspected that it would need to be something of a hero to have endured so long, migrating each year, covering goodness knows how many miles in the process.
